Central Greenwich

Central Greenwich blends culture, history, and luxury living in the vibrant heart of the community.

Welcome to Central Greenwich

Central Greenwich is the heart of town, where history, commerce, culture, and community all converge. Bordered by the Byram and Mianus Rivers, this area was originally known as Horseneck and served as fertile farmland before becoming the town’s primary business and civic center. With the arrival of the railroad in the mid-1800s, Central Greenwich evolved rapidly into a shopping destination, eventually giving rise to Greenwich Avenue as we know it today.

Greenwich Avenue—often referred to as the “Yellow Brick Road”—has a rich backstory. Once a dirt path leading to the shoreline, it was transformed into a central artery of town life after the railroad came through in 1848. Bricked in 1903 and turned into a one-way street in 1970, the Avenue has long been a hub for shopping, dining, and gathering. Today, it’s lined with a mix of luxury retailers like Saks Fifth Avenue and Hermes, as well as long-standing local favorites like Betteridge Jewelers.

Beyond the shops and restaurants, Central Greenwich is home to key institutions including the town’s main library and the 206-bed Greenwich Hospital, part of the Yale New Haven Health system. It also houses the acclaimed Bruce Museum, which is recognized for its art and science exhibitions and its impressive collection of early 20th-century artists, many connected to the Cos Cob School.

Real estate in Central Greenwich moves quickly thanks to its walkability, access to amenities, and direct connection to the train. It’s where convenience meets character, offering residents a vibrant lifestyle with everything at their doorstep.
